An Insightful Exploration: Tsim Sha Tsui Community Tour with Ethnic Minority

WEDO GLOBAL has partnered with Kerry Engagement to host the "Tsim Sha Tsui Community Tour with Ethnic Minority" for colleagues of the Kerry Group, as well as their friends and families. During the tour, participants had the opportunity to visit cultural spots in Tsim Sha Tsui. Through firsthand experiences and cultural interactions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the history, culture, and daily lives of the South Asian community in Hong Kong. This experience aims to foster cross-cultural communication and contribute to developing a more diverse and inclusive community.

“I appreciate the explanations given by the Cultural Ambassadors, which are down-to-earth and relatable.”

Most of the participants had never been to the Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre or Chungking Mansions before. With the guidance of Cultural Ambassadors, participants learned more about different cultural items and tasted the unique flavour of South Indian snacks and Masala tea, mixed with different spices like cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom. Additionally, some participants tried traditional face threading in a South Asian hair salon and shared their feelings with others. “It was a unique experience. At first, I felt a little discomfort, but slowly I got used to it.” Chungking Mansions is not only home to South Asian stores and restaurants but also to establishments representing various ethnicities. This diverse multicultural environment demonstrated that the mingling and inclusion of diverse cultures and people are indeed beautiful and harmonious.

“I rarely come across topics on diversity and inclusion and it is my first time visiting these two places. It was a very special and unique experience.”

In the Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre, the religious leader shared the history and stories of how the first group of Muslims came to Hong Kong and its connection with the nearby Kowloon Park. This information surprised many participants who had yet to be aware of this aspect of Hong Kong's history. They also learned more about the customs and practices of Muslims and the Masjid, including prayer, Ramadan, the facilities and more. Moreover, they had the opportunity to interact with a young child learning the Quran.

“The tour guides are very helpful and knowledgeable.”

Through the sharings and the five senses interactive experiences, participants truly immerse themselves in different cultures and gain a deeper understanding of others. This understanding can help us overcome biases and embrace the values of diversity and inclusivity, creating a more harmonious and inclusive society.
